DESTINATIONS

The smallest of the seven Emirates with an area of just 260 square kilometres, Ajman is centrally located on the western coast of the UAE between the Emirates of Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain. Ajman also includes Masfut and Manama, two small enclaves inland in the Hajar mountains, rich in agriculture and farming. Like the other Emirates, Ajman also has a pleasant blend of the old and the new, the simple and the sophisticated. With a history dating back 5000 years, Ajman was one of the world’s earliest inhabited regions and it is possible to see reminders of the regions historic past at the Ajman National Museum, housed on the site of an old fortress. The proximity to Dubai and Sharjah make this a unique holiday destination with unspoilt beaches and rich local culture.
If you are looking for a place to get away from the busy city life and enjoy the sweet serenity of sunny beaches and warm seas, then Ajman is the ideal place for such an experience. There is no wealth of shopping malls, high rise buildings and glamourous restaurants; the traditional way of living has been preserved. The town of Ajman lies on the coast of the Arabian Gulf and is filled with historical landmarks which are left untouched by concrete jungles. While beach lovers can splash away in any one of the beautiful beaches of Ajman, bargain hunters are well catered for with the Ajman Souk, renowned for its architectural splendour. Existing in a time between western and Arabian cultures, Ajman is an archetype of the Arabian folklore. Known as the ‘Arabian boozer’, it is a place that provides comfort to all in the old-fashioned way. Ramadan is strictly observed for one month commencing either September 23rd or 24th 2006 (exact date to be announced). During this period Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, with no food, drink or cigarettes being allowed to pass their lips and some hotel restaurants are closed.
