Take a ‘walk on the wild side’ during this trip of a lifetime to meet the ‘Wild men of Borneo’! Great for nature lovers.
Early morning transfer to Kota Kinabalu airport for your flight to Sandakan, the former capital of Sabah. On arrival, proceed by road on a 30-minute journey to Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary. This sanctuary is the world’s largest Orang Utan rehabilitation centre and it offers you the chance to come face to face with the huge red apes, found naturally only in Borneo and Sumatra. Continue on a 2-hour boat journey to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary. Enjoy lunch at Abai Jungle Restaurant. Afternoon, enjoy a boat trip up river in search of the Proboscis monkeys, birds and other wildlife. Arrive Sukau and check in at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Late afternoon, enjoy a further river cruise to Menanggul River, a small tributary of the Kinabatangan. Return to the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, depart Sukau by boat down river to Sandakan. A further chance to spot more wildlife on this 2 hour journey. Upon arrival at the jetty, you will drive past the Agnes Keith Museum and take a journey uphill to the Puh Jih Syh Chinese Buddhist Temple, offering panoramic views of the Sandakan Bay. Afterwards, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Return to Sandakan airport for your return flight to Kota Kinabalu. Note: Please ensure you take insect repellent and good walking shoes.
