Maldives
Scattered across the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the gem-like
islands of the Maldives depict the rare vision of a tropical paradise.
Palm fringed islands with sparkling white beaches, turquoise lagoons,
clear warm waters and coral reefs teeming with abundant varieties of marine
life continue to enthral visitors. Measuring 820 kilometres north to south
and 120 kilometres east to west, the closest neighbours are Sri Lanka
and India. These islands are surrounded by shallow lagoons enclosed by
coral reefs that provide the visitor with some of the most breathtaking
under water life in the world. Every one of the Twohigs’ resort islands
have been especially chosen for you!

Our Thoughts
Accommodation ranges from the simple to the understated elegance. Food
and drink is also imported, so will suit the western palate, although
it should be remembered that drink is expensive. Fresh fish features strongly
in the local cuisine. The less mobile may find the boat transfers, jetties
and sand paths difficult.
Transfers
All Twohigs featured islands are accessed by speedboat or seaplane from
Malé. Please see each individual hotel/resort description for full details.
Note: Seaplane transfers can only operate during daylight hours. In addition,
there is a luggage allowance of 20 Kilos on seaplanes and excess baggage
is charged at approximately USD2 per kilo.
Important Note
Due to the popularity of the Maldives, demand for hotel rooms far exceeds
availability. This is an ongoing problem and consequently, we would strongly
recommend that you book as far in advance as possible in order to have
the best chance of securing your chosen accommodation. In all cases, Twohigs
will endeavour to offer you an alternative property if your first choice
is unavailable.
Diving in the Maldives
The Maldives are famous as one of the top dive locations in the world
and most islands run a professional dive school catering for the beginner
through to the experienced diver. Those who have dived before should bring
their log books and PADI certificate. All necessary equipment is available
for hire and some schools also have underwater cameras for hire. Prices
for diving vary from island to island and these are booked locally with
boat trips charged as extras.
