Oman

Oman is one of the oldest civilisations of the Arabian Peninsular. Bordered by the Arabian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, it is a country of dramatic landscapes with rugged mountain ranges, vast deserts and sandy beaches. Oman has become an exciting and vibrant destination with high quality cosmopolitan hotels, a great climate and superb beaches. With over 1600 kilometres of coastline, days tend to focus on or close to the sea. Enjoy the watersports facilities at all our featured hotels, or simply relax on the beach and take advantage of the chance to do nothing at all. Muscat, the compact capital, hemmed by a circle of hills beside its horseshoe bay, provides an enchanting blend of old and new. Numerous day trips are available including the Muscat aquarium, or to one of the many palaces, forts and mosques that reflect Oman’s cultural heritage. Shopping for gold, frankincense, silver, exotic fabrics and Bedouin rugs in the souks is very tempting. The Old Muttrah Souk is a labyrinth of alleys, twisting and turning, leading to hidden delights and where bartering is considered the norm. The city of Salalah lies on the Arabian Sea, approximately 1040 kilometres from Muscat, has been subject to many historical and archaeological studies over the years with many interesting finds being uncovered including the ruins of Al-Blaid and Samhuram ancient cities. However, not all the sights in Salalah belong to the past! Located between stunning beaches and the spectacular Qara mountains, Salalah is also surrounded by lush vegetable farms and coconut groves.

Our Thoughts

Oman is a Muslim country and Ramadan is strictly observed for one month commencing either September 23rd or 24th 2006 (to be announced). During this period Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, with no food, drink or cigarettes being allowed to pass their lips. All alcoholic beverages must be consumed in your room and may only be ordered through room service after 6 pm. It must be remembered though, that this is a time for celebration and hotels do arrange sumptuous feasts at night in Ramadan tents and those guests with a passion for culture will enjoy the unique ambience. Please also note that throughout the year, alcohol is not served in any bar or restaurant outlets between the hours of 3pm - 6pm. Salalah is quickly developing as a tourist resort, attracting a number of international hotel chains and is ideal for a relaxing beach holiday away from the beaten track. The summer monsoons during July and August keep the summer months cool bringing mist and rain. These two months are not recommended for sun worshippers.
