The Fortress
The Fortress is, as its name suggests, a hotel fashioned in the style of an ancient Dutch fort with echoes of old Ceylon and modern Asia, this exquisite Per Aquum property is Galle’s most innovative resort experience. Located in the South of the island, the Fortress lies 30-minutes from Galle town and a 5-hour drive from Colombo International airport. The Fortress enjoys a relaxing beachfront location at Koggala, perfectly placed to watch the stilt fishermen out at sea. Light, flavourful international cuisine and authentic Sri Lankan specialities are served at the ‘Pepper’ restaurant, a modern glass cave offers a breathtaking array of Old and New World wines, ‘T’ is the perfect place to indulge yourself in the tea culture of the island or why not try a funky tea-influenced cocktail at ‘Sea lounge’ under a starry night sky. Facilities include a beautiful infinity-edged swimming pool, a fitness centre, kids club, turtle hatchery, ‘Lime’ Spa offering a wide range of treatments, yoga pavilion and the complimentary ‘Degrees’ water therapies including sauna, steam and hydrobath. All 47 Fortress, Ocean and Loft bedrooms are exquisitely decorated creating sensual living spaces with a naturally modern twist. Each air-conditioned room has a private courtyard or balcony, television, DVD player, iPod, espresso machine and a mini-bar. The Fortress Rooms feature a super king size bed at 7ft by 7ft bed. The Ocean Rooms are located on the upper floor, offering stunning views of the gardens and the Indian Ocean. They are larger in size with high vaulted ceilings and split-level living area. The Ocean Lofts are split-level rooms, with an oversized living room, an indoor plunge pool, an inviting day bed, 42” television and the upstairs bathroom features both rainfall and wall showers.
